Bad Start Continues to Plaque Martin at Arlington, TX - Nets a 6th

2/14/2017

Arlington, Texas (February 11, 2017) – With Jeremy Martin back in action alongside Jimmy Decotis, the GEICO Honda team was back at full strength for the final Monster Energy Supercross 250SX West Region race before a long break. Decotis continued his recent run of strong riding to net fourth for the second-straight race. Martin looked solid in his return but was again done in by a bad start.

Of course, while he’s riding well, finishing just one spot away from a first career podium has only serves to frustrated Decotis, who has finished fourth three times now in his professional supercross career.

“It’s time to do it, tonight and even last weekend I had the speed,” said Decotis. “I need to work on being confident halfway through. It’s not a fitness thing, I’m not breathing hard out there, I feel good, everything is good. Last week I made some mistakes in the middle, this one was good but I got a little tight in the middle. And I got arm pump surgery, but no matter what, it’s not going to be perfect. It definitely helped, though. It’s okay. My lap times are competitive, I just need to be closer to my best lap every lap. That’s what’s costing me from getting up on that podium.”

Decotis looked good in fourth for most of the 15 minute plus 1 lap main event, trying to keep third-place Austin Forkner in sight. Then Aaron Plessinger got around him and Decotis had a few bad laps. Later, race leader Shane McElrath ran into bike problems and had to pull off the track, moving the field forward one position, allowing Decotis to take fourth.

Decotis has also climbed to fifth in the 250SX West Region standings.

Martin’s return to action after missing two races with a concussion looked much the same as his previous races: great speed, bad start. He came from 15th on lap one to finish sixth.

“Tough race in Dallas,” said Martin. “Struggled on the gate again, had to come from behind in the main to sixth. I can’t tell you how many starts I’ve practiced in the last three or four weeks! I’ll have to just keep working on them. Looking forward to the break to build and get better.”

The 250SX West Region division will be on break until April, when Decotis and Martin will resume competition. The 250SX East Region kicks off this weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with Christian Craig and RJ Hampshire carrying the flag for the GEICO Honda team.
